Lunch in Missanabie

Monday morning and everyone is anxious to ride. The weather has turned cold on us but spirits are high and we are ready to hit the trails. The thermometer was -33c at 6:30 A.M. so we decided to wait until 10:00 A.M. to ride. We rode to Ernie’s in Missanabie for lunch. What a great guy he is!!!!! He came out of his warm house and opened the restaurant for us and He Cooked. Great Burgers!!!! Thanks Ernie.

Just got off the phone with “Chase One and he notified me the riders left about 10:00 to ride local trails around the Wawa, Ontario area. Apparantly there were poor trail conditions on their planned route west toward White River, Ontario. They are planning on returning to Wawa, Ontario this afternoon. A check of the satellite transponders (Spot Messengers) shows everyones are tracking today, including a new one added for Larry Wormnest.

On Our Way

We started our day at 9:00 A.M. We had an inch of fresh snow and every ones adrenalin was at the max. Searchmont to WaWa on good trails. Sandy (one of the Alfa chicks) is shown here being taken care of by Dick, Duanne, Garry and Dave.

Sun setting along the trail

One of the many spectacular views of “Day 1”. Today’s ride started at Driftwood Valley Chalet in Searchmont Ontario. The group rode 160+ miles to Wawa, Ontario. Conditions for today’s ride were nearly perfect. Everyone arrived safely at “Wawa Motor Inn” by 6:00pm.

All riders have safely arrived in Wawa, Ontario. “We had a GREAT day on the trail today” said Betty Randall.  “We traveled in 3 groups at different spends and everyone was happy”

According to satellite transponders (Spot Messengers), several of the riders have arrived in Wawa, Ontario at the Wawa Motor Inn about 4:30 P.M. eastern. We still show other riders on the trail about an hour out from Wawa, at this point we don’t know if they had problems or are taking it easy.

According to Satellite tracking all riders made it to Halfway Haven (near Jeep Lake, Ontario) at 1:20 PM eastern.  They will get some lunch and gas and should be moving again to their destination of Wawa, Ontario.

The teams left this morning from Searchmont, Ontario on the D-trail heading for Wawa, Ontario.  They will be stopping a a Canadian outpost at Halfway Haven to have lunch and fuel up. This ride is about 200 miles with no roads or anyway to get to them if they have problems. All the Support vehicle can do is wait for them to get to come out either  end of the trail. The Canadian outpost at “Halfway Haven” is an outpost with its own generators, fuel and limited accomadations. We are having technical difficulties with a few of the satellite transponders (SPOTS) today, with only Jim Dickie, Bryon Pattullo, Duane Kurniski, Don Lipinski, Garry Randell and Support vehicle (chase one) reporting their positions.  Click on  the MAPs page to the right for the actual trail map they are following.
