In the late 1990’s I became concerned about my parents high risk activity and passion of going on 10 day snowmobile safari each year, taking basically a compass and a map (compass optional). I was concerned they were not utilizing the latest technologies to de-risk their adventure. Instead of trying to get them to stop this risky behavior I instead started participating and implemented measures to de-risk. I now have participated in 8 long distant snowmobile safaris over the past 10 years, ranging from 2000 mile loops in Ontario Canada to a 2400 mile ride from Michigan to far eastern Quebec and circumnavigation of Lake Superior. I have been riding snowmobiles since the late 1960’s and was involved with my father’s racing career back in the 1970’s and 80’s and then over 20 years of my parents annual “Pattullo2000” snowmobile safari (www.pattullo2000.com). I have also been actively involved in offshore sailboat racing and cruising over the last 10 years, participating in several Chicago and Port Huron Mac’s and offshore races in the Gulf of Mexico and off the coast of Florida.
