It was a chilly morning, -20C, but clear. Snow was nearly none existent during the day, but there was a small dusting that had come down during the night, that provided the required lubrication and cooling.

We are now well into Canada, even though Hughie had us traveling south, at one point during the day…… Thanks Serge for catching that.

Dave Gentry spent the day at the dealers, picking up wear bars for everybody’s sled…… The lack of snow destroyed everyone’s.

We cleared customs into Canada, at a remote site that consisted of nothing more that a telephone, the process took about an hour….. At least there was a restaurant near that was open.

Another great day!

UP Ride – Group 1 & 2

This is a layover day for the Michigan riders and we are glad because it is a misty rainy day. We are staying at the Mariner North Motel in Copper Harbor. The Brockway Mountain is in the background.

There is certainly enough snow here!

Yesterday’s ride was very hard on the carbides. Yves had to replace his. Hughie’s wore right off….. He had to special order some from Winnipeg. It’ll be a slippery ride for him the next couple of days.

What a great day we had! The snow conditions were perfect. We rode the banks and ditches, back trails, and ice roads. Tonight we are staying in an island in the middle of Lake of the Woods.

On arriving in Ashland we were surprised to find waiting for us, the VP of the Minnesota Snowmobile Assocation, Greg Sorenson. He had come over to ride with us the next day. What a great time we had with him yesterday.

Thanks Greg!

Alaska Team Leaves

It was a Happy group of riders that left Antonio’s Restaurant, on February 18. The trails were just barely covered in snow, which caused dinner problems riding to Ashland. We felt like a bunch of children heading off on adventure, away from the rest of the family. I know, that, as Betty said goodbye to us, that she had a hard time seeing us go. For us the sadnesd was outweighed by the adventure ahead. We had a great afternoon.
