9:00 A.M.- The groups left this morning from Smooth Rock Falls, Ontario. The temp was 0 degrees F, but feels like -18 and lots of snow. They will ride north to Abitibi Canyon and Fraserdale, Ontario for lunch and then loop east and back south to their destination today of Cochrane, Ontario. (Click here) to see map

This is our coldest day so far. The wind was gusting at 30 MPH. We have learned through experience how to dress to handle the cold and no rider had frost bite today.

3:30 P.M. – All the riders have arrived at their destination in Smooth Rock Falls, Ontario. We stopped a historical monument today.

The group left this morning at 9:00 to ride east to Smooth Rock Falls, Ontario on OFSC Trail (A), They will be stopping at the Moonbeam snowmobile club for lunch. Both Bryon Pattullo (Team 3) and Kristy Lipinski (Team 4) are heading back to the Soo on the Snow Train from Hearst, Ontario. They both have to go back to work, we will miss them both.
Day 5 “The wipeout” incident

The youngest rider, Bryon Pattullo (Team 3) from Miami FL, George & Betty Pattullo’s grandson, was riding in the deep powder today with Georges snowmobile and hit a patch of ice and rolled the sled. According to Bryon he got thrown from the sled and landed on his feet (not injured), the sled then rolled, breaking the windshield, GPS and cracking the hood. After some duct tape and a new part from the local Ski-doo dealer, the sled is ready to go again. Although Bryon has ridin snowmobiles most of his life and is an accomplished trick rider on jet-ski’s, he may have learned the difference between the two today. He also had the GoPro HD helmet cam on at the time and below is the video. (warning language may not be suitable for young children rated: PG-13)

Day 5 – Cold Thursday in Hearst, Ontario

We have a layover day in Hearst today and the weather has not changed much for the past three days. We waited until noon to ride today and it had warmed up to 2 degrees F. The trails are all groomed and the people in Hearst are wonderful. We will be riding for the next 5 days and hope the weather warms up just a little. Thanks for all the messages from home. They mean a lot to each and everyone of us.
